The Tomb Raider Time Trial mountain bike race took place on 13th October in Al Khoud in Oman, organised by the Oman Trailbuilders and supported by Muscat Bike Shop and Red Bull
The race kicked off the mountain bike season, and tested riders technical ability, as well as their ability to handle the hot weather and intense nature of the 6km course, taking in two local favourite trails – Tomb Raider and Home Invader. Riders set off in reverse speed order, with the first riders just aiming to survive and have fun.
Soon the pace picked up, with Sayed Waleed the first rider to break the 30 minute barrier, on his way to an eventual 10th place. Following this, times started to tumble. The last three riders to set off were Steve Ross, David Price, and Shabib Al Balushi. Steve suffered mechanical issues at the start line, and had to race on his son’s bike. This and a puncture led to him finishing 7th. David Price came in with a blistering time, 22:51, but as he was crossing the line, Shabib was already coming into view. Even a crash on the final corner didn’t stop him taking the win in 21 minutes and 12 seconds.
All 51 finishers came in with a smile on their face, and enjoyed some food and catching up with old riding friends.
